Coleman, as commander of the sixth regiment of Virginia troops in the War of 1812, reports his attachment's movements from Tappahannock to St. George Island, Richmond Court House, Monday's Point, Northumberland Court House, the mouth of the Cone River and Middle Creek. The British had returned to their vessels before the troops arrived at each place. Coleman's regiment joined Colonel Downing's regiment near Northumberland Court House.
